Published

on

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been suspended for 90 legislative days by the senate for standing against the election reordering bill.

Omo-Agege, who championed a revolt against the election reordering bill was axed following the outcome of the Senate committee that was set up to probe him.

Although Omo-Agege has since apologised for his actions, he took a dramatic step thereafter by taking the senate to court to get a restraining order against any move by the senate to suspend him.

This was said to have angered some of his colleagues who pushed for his suspension which was effected today at plenary.

BigPen Online learnt that the senate on Thursday after pronouncing suspension on the APC lawmaker, also asked him to withdraw his case against the Senate from court.

After his suspension, Omo-Agege who represents Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta state, left the chamber with another pro-Buhari Senator, Abdullahi Adamu.

They went to the office of Adamu, a former Governor of Nasarawa State, while plenary was still on.

Meanwhile, the report of the senate committee, which indicted Omo-Agege also recommended the immediate dissolution of the pro-President Muhammadu Buhari group in the Senate.

The pro-Buhari group in the Senate is believed to be led by Omo-Agege who our senate source said is seen as the closest senator at the moment to President Buhari.

The Senate is currently divided over the failure of the President to append his signature to the amended Electoral Act Bill.

Senators loyal to the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, are bent on vetoing the President on the bill.
