BREAKING! Senate Panel Grills IGP Behind Closed Down Over Benue Killings

Published

on

Senate

The Senate Panel mandated to probe the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on the steps taken over killings in Benue State has commenced its work.

The Senate had on Wednesday mandated the panel to find out from Idris why no arrest had been made concerning the killings.

Lawmakers in the upper chambers of the nation’s National Assembly took the decision after Senate President Bukola Saraki read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari, explaining the steps taken after the January killings in the State.

After the letter was read, Senator Joshua Lidani, from Gombe State, raised a point of order calling the attention of the Senate to the continuous killing in Benue State despite the 14-day ultimatum given to the IG of Police.

The Senate Committees on Police and National Intelligence were mandated to invite the IG and report back next week Tuesday.

The Senate panel, headed by Senator Abu Ibrahim, is, however, grilling Idris behind closed doors. The grilling session started around 10:45am.

No fewer than 73 persons were killed on January 1, 2018 in Benue State by Fulani herdsmen.
