Ugborodo Sends SOS To Buhari Over Alleged Attempt By Olu Of Warri, Ayirimi Emami, Others To Annex Oil Community

Concerned elders of oil rich Ugborodo community, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over what they called alleged attempt by the Olu of Warri Kingdom, HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayirimi Emami and others to annex the community which according to them is not part of Warri Kingdom.
The petition christened “Save Our Soul” and made available to BigPen Online over the weekend, alleged that there is plans to invade Ugborodo community with the purpose of forcing the inhabitants into signing documents that they are part of Warri Kingdom.
The petitioners said Ugborodo is under Warri South West council with headquarters in Ogbe-Ijoh and not Warri South Local Government where the Olu of Warri Kingdom is based.
Signed by Pa. Douglas Omagbemi, Pa. Pasco Oritsegbami, Hon Thomas Ometseagharun, the petition alleged that the plans was hatched at a meeting held on 11 January, 2018 where Emami purportedly said they would use their federal might and Delta state government security apparatus to “cajole Ugborodo community to accept the Warri Kingdom overlordship”.
The elders averred that Ugborodo was founded 13/14 century ago after migrating from Ode in Ijebu-waterside, now Ogun state in 1438 before the arrival of Ginuwa I from Benin Kingdom, 42 years after in 1480, insisting that Ugborodo community has never be part of Warri Kingdom by history and tradition.
The “Save Our Soul” letter also maintained that Ugborodo community had fairly enjoyed peace until recently when it started experiencing undue interference and external control from the use of some disgruntled indigenes who had allegedly shortchanged the community financially over the years.
The petitioners therefore appealed to President Buhari to caused investigation into the allegations with the view to “save our soul from these external force in the community” in accordance with international best practice and extant provision of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
