Oborevwori Witch-hunts Igbuya After His Impeachment, Denied His Aides Furniture Allowance

A power play is currently brewing in the Delta State House of Assembly as incumbent Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and the estranged former Speaker of the Assembly, Monday Igbuya are in a subtle war.

BigPen Online gathered that Oborevwori and Igbuya’s relationship became frosty after the former Speaker was sacked in a controversial manner.

Sources told our correspondent that since the development, Igbuya had deliberately stay away from the House presided over by the new Speaker, adding that since Oborevwori came in, Igbuya had boycotted several sitting and many other activities of the House including the second anniversary of the sixth Assembly.

Our source disclosed that Igbuya is like an “outcast” in the House since his impeachment as many of the lawmakers loathed his leadership of House but had kept their calm because of former governor, James Ibori who had always pleaded for him.

It learnt that Igbuya, perceiving that his impeachment was a major gang up, had decided to maintain a low profile and systematically stay away from legislative business so long Oborevwori remains in the saddles.

The source said that Oborevwori even caused the House to suspend a lawmaker sometime over allegations that he was fielding Igbuya with some classified information in the Assembly, as if his sack had made him an “enemy” of the House who should not be privy to activities of the Oborevwori-led Assembly.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the predicament of the ousted Speaker has rubbed on his aides who are also being witch-hunt by Oborevwori-led Assembly.

This was the reason, our source disclosed why Oborevwori excluded Igbuya’s aides from the recent list of furniture allowance beneficiaries recently complied by the leadership of the House.

BigPen Online learnt that over 30 aides of Igbuya who ought to be paid their furniture allowances as contained in their appointment letters were schemed out because of the cold war between Oborevwori and the estranged former Speaker, Igbuya.

The source hinted that following the recent petition dated 15 November, 2017 to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by the affected aides to use his good office to include their names as a “right and not privilege”, Oborevwori decided to step down the list of aides who were to benefit from the payment.

This, according to our source was to enable the governor to first approve the purchase of their second vehicles which is now priority against payment of furniture allowance of their aides.

Dependable Government House source told BigPen Online that the lawmakers are seriously mounting pressure on Governor Okowa to release money for the purchase of the vehicles in preparation for the 2018 fiscal year.

Payment of the furniture allowance of the political aides of the lawmakers including aides of the former Speaker, Igbuya have been a subject of controversial with the aides embarking on consistent protest over the inability of the leadership of the House to settle off the backlog.

Recall that Oborevwori had sometime ago during the second anniversary of sixth Assembly said payment of furniture allowances for their aides is not the business of journalists who report the outcry of the workers.
