Ijaw Youths Blast Rep Member Over Allege Misleading Remarks On Bayelsa Polytechnic

Hon. Aminu Suleiman

The member representing Kano (Fagge Federal Constituency) in the House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Tertiary Education Hon. Aminu Suleiman, has been criticised for allegedly making misleading remarks over the state of Federal Polytechnic Ekowe in Bayelsa state.

Suleiman, was quoted in the media to have said the Federal Polytechnic Ekowe in Bayelsa state was being occupied by only rats and lizards, thus giving an erroneous impression on the true existence of the institution.

But, the Ijaw Youth Council, through its Legal Adviser, Barr. Igbeta Ayebakuro in a statement issued in Abuja and obtained by BigPen Online on Saturday, expressed disappointment that Suleiman could be blinded by his perceived hatred for Bayelsa state to have made a total falsehood claim geared toward plot to closing down the polytechnic which will certainly bring untold hardship to both students and staff of the institution.

“The whole country is aware of the number of pseudo institutions doting the landscape of the north, we advise Suleiman to refocus on sponsoring meaningful Bills in the House that will attract development to his educationally disadvantaged people whom he represents. The new rebranded IYC under the able leadership of President Oweilaemi Pereotubo frown at a situation where a person uses his office to either score cheap political points or  blackmail Public servants and swindle resources from them.

“The EFCC, ICPC and other anti-graft agencies should immidiately swing into the trail of Hon. Aminu Suleiman as this might be his antics to solicit unmerited financial gratification from the Rector and  management of the polytechnic and possibly from the heads of so many other public institutions of learning in the Country, hence he has turned his controversial position as Chairman House Committee on Tertiary Education into his coco-farm”, the statement added.

The IYC Legal Adviser noted that  the Federal Polytechnic Ekowe despite its remote location, the Institution has being admitting students since establishment and  continued to receive such acknowledgement even from highly rated bodies like JAMB, participating in the activities of Unions like the ASUP, a clear affirmation to the existence of the Institution contrary to Suleiman’s misleading claims and remarks.

“We view the Sulieman’s remarks as  a calculated attempt to truncate the Polytechnic, deny it of funds and bring it to a premature and artificial death, to the displeasure of the Ijaw nation, as the institution is prided as one of the best in the Country.

“The Polytechnic is just one of the few Federal presence in Bayelsa state, which has being producing graduates with the requisite skill to man critical aspects of the state, Niger Delta and national life”.

The IYC advised Suleiman to be more patriotic and rather use his office to attract a road to the Institution to ease the plight of staff and students who have to spend fortunes weekly to achieve their mandates and goals.
