In a bid to forestall incessant clashes between farmers/herdsmen in Delta state, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Ibrahim in collaboration with the Delta state Government has inaugurated a Peace Committee.

The inauguration took place on Thursday at the conference hall of the Police Command Headquarters, Asaba, the state capital.

The CP noted that the Committee is constituted to promote harmonious relationship between farmers and herdsmen in the State and should act in alternative dispute resolution of conflicts between herdsmen andfarmers.

He further charged the members to ensure that they pro-actively nip in the bud any tendencies that would bring about such misunderstanding betweencommunities and Herdsmen likely to cause the breach of the peace in the State.

The CP, who is sanguine that the newly inaugurated committee will greatly help to reduce tensions arising from herdsmen/farmers’ clashes in the State, called on the members of the committee to justify their selection by the State government by working honestly and tirelessly towards realizing the reign of peace in the State.

On his part, the Chairman of the Committee who is also the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the governor of the State, Chief Cassidy Iloba assured the CP of the unalloyed commitment and focus of the Committee towards achieving the purpose for which it was set up, State Police spokesman, Andrew Aniamaka said in a statement on Friday.
