The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has slated the 3rd of July 2017 to verify the registered voters who signed the petition for the recall of embattled Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye.

A letter from INEC reads; “The Independent National Electoral Commission held its regular weekly meeting today and considered the petition submitted by some registered voters of Kogi state West senatorial district to kick start the process of recalling Senator Dino Melaye.

“In accordance with the INEC guidelines for the recall of the members of the National Assembly, the commission has formally acknowledged the receipt of the Petitions to the petitioners’ Representatives and has conveyed a letter notifying Senator Melaye of our receipt of his petition.

“The next step is to verify that the petitioners are registered voters in the Kogi West senatorial district.

“INEC will on the 3rd of July, 2017 issue a public notice stating the day (s),time, location and other details of the the verification exercise.”

Up till this point, Sen. Melaye had described the recall moves as a comedy of error orchestrated by the Governor of Kogi State to cover his alleged failures in office.

The governor had however denied having a hand in the senator’s travails.
