INEC Asks Police To Beef Up Security Around Delta LGA’s Offices

The Independent Nationalists Electoral Commission (INEC), has appealed to the Delta State Police Command to enhance patrol of the Commission’s Local Government offices in the state.

INEC says the moves is part of measures to prevent theft and willful arson by criminals as the state prepares for it’s local government elections.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe made the appeal when he led the Commission’s management to the State Police Command Headquarters, on a courtesy visit, in Asaba.

Speaking, Omorogbe regretted the recent act of arson on the Commission’s LG offices in the Contiguous State of Anambra and Imo.

He also expressed appreciation to the police high command for coordinating the efforts that culminated in the successful implementation of the security architecture, during the conduct of the 2019 General Election.

Dr. Omorogbe further pledged to enhance the synergy between the Commission’s legal Department and the police for effective prosecution of electoral offenses going forward.

He informed the CP of the admission of EFCC and ICPC as members of ICCES , as part of measures by the Commission to deepen transparency and prevent malfeasance in the electoral process.

In his remarks, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Inuwa pledged to enhance police patrol of the Commission’s LG offices.

He stressed the need for close working relationship between the ;police and the Commission, particularly at the Local Government levels, pledging to make the contact telephone numbers of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and patrol teams available for all LG Electoral Officers, for ease of communication and prompt intervention in distress situations.

The Delta Police boss noted that, the inclusion of EFCC and ICPC as members of ICCES will no doubt prevent unscrupulous use of money in the electoral process.
