Former Director General of Direct Labour Agency in Delta state, Comrade Emmanuel Odafe Igbini has said that immediate past governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan doesn’t believe in some of the projects awarded for execution during his tenure.

He spoke in reaction to the controversial interview granted PUNCH newspaper by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa which is said to have embarrassed the immediate past governor.

While reacting to the interview entitled; “Stopping Uduaghan’s projects is in public interest – Okowa”, published on Sunday, Igbini alluded to the fact that Okowa’s predecessor may have been under “political pressure” in the award of some of the projects which were cancelled by Okowa.

While saying that he agree with Governor Okowa for the reason advanced for the cancellation of the projects, Igbini who was appointed DG of Direct Labour Agency under Uduaghan’s administration, said that more of such projects that counteract ‘public interest’ needed to be cancelled while others need total review.

Consequently, Igbini who is National President, Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy (VATLAD), an anti corruption group, asserted that some ongoing projects being executed by Governor Okowa needed to be scrapped or review ostensibly because they are also not in the interest of the socio-economic development of the state and her people.

The statement which was made available to BigPen Online read in full; “I’ve been inundated with calls for my reaction to this story. I’ve carefully read the interview and what Gov. Okowa said regarding his decision to stop those projects.

“From benefit of hindsight and information Gov. Okowa gave, I totally agree with him to stop or even outrightly cancel some of them for the overriding interest of Deltans.

“Some more Projects need to be cancelled while others need total review.

“I know as a fact that even fmr Gov. Uduaghan didn’t also believe in some of these Projects but political pressure may have forced him to go against his will.

“In the same vein, some ongoing projects by Okowa must be stopped or cancelled”.
