The Maiduguri metropolis was struck by a series of suicide bomb explosions on Monday evening, causing chaos and injuries across the city.

The attacks, believed to be carried out by Boko Haram terrorists, targeted three busy locations during the Iftar period, at approximately 7:05 p.m.

According to the Joint Task Force (Operation HADIN KAI), the explosions occurred at the Post Office area, Monday Market axis, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

The terrorists reportedly deployed multiple suicide bombers in a coordinated effort to maximize casualties and spread terror among residents.

Security forces responded swiftly to the scene, cordoning off affected areas and evacuating the injured to various hospitals, including the General Hospital, Specialist Hospital, and UMTH for urgent medical care. Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, NEMA, and medical providers, worked tirelessly to save lives and contain the situation.

Preliminary reports suggest that the terrorists aimed to carry out simultaneous bombings at crowded locations, with potential plans for further attacks. In response, security agencies have intensified patrols, surveillance, and counter-IED measures throughout Maiduguri to prevent additional incidents and track down remaining suspects.

The attack has left several wounded, with medical teams providing urgent care at multiple facilities. The authorities continue to assess the situation and strengthen security across the city.
