Suspended Delta Assembly Lawmaker, Omonade Breaks Silence Over Gross Misconduct Allegation

Suspended member of the Delta State House of Assembly, representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency, Hon. Matthew Omonade, has broke his silence over alleged gross misconduct allegation against him.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpennge.com) reports that Omonade was suspended for 14 legislative days due to alleged gross misconduct as announced by the House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor during Tuesday’s plenary session.

But taken to his verified Facebook page, Hon. Omonade, in a post entitled ‘On my suspension– a call for calm’, on Wednesday, urged his constituents and supporters to remain calm and steadfast with him as their representative in the House.

He said that the issues that led to his suspension was an internal House conflict that would be resolved within.

He wrote; “I know that my constituents, supporters and well wishers received the news of my suspension with shock– it is expectedly so.

“However, there is no cause for worries! It is about an internal issue in the House, and it will be resolved in the House as one big family that legislates for the good of Deltans. In all human societies, conflicts are inevitable. This experience is one of such

“While I appreciate your concerns, which are expressed in a series of calls and text messages, I wish to urge you all not to cast aspersions or attacks on anybody.

“As a responsible Deltan and pacifist, I will always toe the path of peace in the best interest of my constituents.

“I sincerely appreciate you all!”, he added.

Recalls that the state Assembly had suspended Hon. Omonade, following a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, alleging Omonade’s breach of privilege in line with the standing orders of the house.

The motion which was seconded by the Chief Whip and member representing Sapele state constituency, Perkins Umukoro called for the member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency to be suspended from the service of the house for 14 Legislative days for gross misconduct, and also to handover to the management of the house all government properties in his possession as well as constitute an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the gross misconduct by Omonade.

The speaker, Rt Hon. Guwor thereafter announced his immediate suspension following a voice vote and consequently ordered to be escorted out of the chamber. The lawmaker was ordered to hand over all government properties, including his official vehicle.

The House, however constituted a six-man ad-hoc committee, headed by the Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, to investigate the alleged misconduct and report to the house within one week.

Omonade is one of seven lawmakers that won assembly seats from the All Progressives Party at the 2023 elections.
