The Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for a period of three months.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the decision comes in the wake of allegations raised by Ningi that the 2024 Budget was padded, amounting to a staggering N3.7 trillion.

During a heated session in the red chamber, Jimoh Ibrahim, a member of the Appropriation Committee, initially proposed a motion to suspend Ningi for a duration of 12 months, citing accusations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace within the National Assembly and the wider country.

However, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari later put forth amendments to reduce the suspension to six and three months, respectively.

Senate President Akpabio, considering Ningi’s actions as “grievous,” conducted a voice vote, with a majority of lawmakers supporting the three-month suspension.
