Delta: Police Arrests Kidnap Suspect, Rescues Victim, Nabs 2 Tricycle Snatchers

A 23-year-old boy has been arrested by police team in Delta State after allegedly kidnapping a man along with his Toyota Corolla car in Otu-Jeremi community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, simply identified as Onwuka Kelly, was arrested in a gun duel with policemen attached to Counter Terrorism Unit, Base 5 Warri who were on escort duty.

He was fleecing with the 37 years old victim (name withheld) of Egbo-Urhie Community of Ughelli South LGA when he was trailed and apprehended.

Similarly, two 24-year-old tricycle snatchers were arrested after they flagged down a tricycle operators popularly known as Keke rider on February 22, at about 1030hrs at PTI junction Effurun.

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed the development on Friday, said that the Divisional Police Officer in Otu-Jeremi had on February 21, at about 2025hrs, received a distress call about the kidnap and swiftly detailed patrol teams to go after the hoodlum.

He said before the police team arrived the scene, another set of policemen who were escorting their principal coincidentally ran into the hoodlum and trailed him to Ekrokpe community where he opened fire on sighting the police team and was retaliated in an ensuing gun duel.

He said that the vehicle with which the suspect was fleeing, was successfully demobilized by the team and the victim rescued unhurt.

One cut to size double barrel gun, one cut to size single barrel gun and one live cartridge were recovered from him as exhibits.

On the tricycle snatchers, Edafe said the suspects tricked the rider to convey them to Agbarho but robbed him of the Keke on getting to Agbarho bridge along Ughelli-Port Harcourt Expressway, where one of the passengers hit him on the head, forced him out of the tricycle and took the Keke to unknown destination.

Edafe said that the DPO Agbarho Division on getting the information, detailed operatives to investigate, and consequently, on February 23, at about 1200hrs, upon an intelligence led investigation, the hoodlums were trailed to their hideout in Eghwarha road Agbarho, where two suspects namely: Goodluck Ahirima and Charles Oyibocha were arrested and the snatched tricycle recovered.

Edafe said that investigation is still ongoing on the two cases.
