Sack Fever Grip Commissioners, Special Advisers To Governor Okowa

Fear of possible sack has gripped Commissioners and Special Advisers to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

BigPen Online can report that Governor Okowa is set to dissolve his cabinet.

The governor,  it was gathered may likely dissolved his cabinet soon as he return to the country from his short vacation.

Sources said that the atmosphere in Asaba, the state capital has been tense up over who the hammer may fall on.

Okowa has been strategising and oiling the state political machinery as 2019 general election approaches.

The likely sack is part of the plans to plant his core men in various positions, and not those handpicked for him by former governor, Chief James Ibori and others.

Dependable source at Government House disclosed that a few of the  Commissioners from the first twelve earlier appointed may make the list of those already being compile as replacement of those to be sacked.

The source said that some core Ibori men in the administration would be excuse and others redeployed to man key portfolio.

Some of the Commissioners and Special Advisers who were merely empowered when Governor Okowa assumed office with the portfolios assigned to them would lose their job while others would be reshuffle, our source said. 

A dependable Government House source said the move was a routine thing for Governor’s to rejig their cabinet after two years of office,  saying that it has nothing to do with witch-hunting.

According to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity; “The Governor will soon dissolve the cabinet but I can’t say when exactly. However what everyone should know is that dissolving cabinet is just a way of rejiging the machinery of government for efficiency. Some commissioners will be relieve of their duties while others will be redeployed, it is normal.

Besides, the source,  however said that Governor Okowa has maintained cordial relationships with his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and former governor, Chief James Ibori stressing that any step taken by the Governor was for the good of Deltans and not against the duo as often speculated.

“I can tell you that the likely cabinet shake-up has nothing to do with the former Governors of the state. The Governor and the immediate are in good terms. Overzealous party loyalties are the one trying to cause disaffection between them.

“People always read negative meaning to whatever Okowa does because he is a straight forward person. He is a no-nonsense kind of person and down to earth so his policies are tailored to suit his lifestyle, even the likely cabinet shake-up that is imminent is good for the government but they are already reading negative meaning to it.

The source who confided on BigPen Online said that there is disquiet in the state since some of the Commissioners and Special Advisers got wind of the likely cabinet reshuffle.
