Three Killed, Seven Injured in Two Separate Road Crashes in Ogun
Three persons have been killed and seven others injured in two separate road accidents along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and Ota–Idiroko Road in Ogun State.
The accidents occurred on Saturday at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incidents in a traffic update issued on Saturday.
Akinbiyi said the first accident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway, claiming the life of a woman and leaving two other women injured.
According to him, the crash involved a patrol van and a tricycle. The van reportedly emerged from the Kam Steel access road onto the highway and collided with the tricycle, causing it to somersault.
He said eight persons were involved in the incident, adding that one female adult died while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured victims were subsequently taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the hospital morgue.
In the second accident, two persons, a man and a woman, were killed, while five others sustained injuries following a collision involving a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle at the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.
Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at about 3:25 p.m. and was reportedly caused by brake failure, which made the truck driver lose control.
He quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the truck’s brakes failed before the vehicle rammed into the tricycle.
Nine persons were involved in the crash, with two confirmed dead and seven others injured.
The TRACE spokesperson said the injured victims had been taken to the hospital before the arrival of rescue officials.
He added that the relatives of one of the deceased had claimed the body, while the remains of the other victim were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
Akinbiyi said TRACE operatives, alongside personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police, intervened at both scenes to restore normal traffic flow.
While commiserating with the families of the deceased, the agency urged motorists to prioritise road safety by ensuring regular servicing and proper maintenance of their vehicles.
It warned that failure to maintain vehicles could result in avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
