Lagos Police Detain ASP Over Fatal Shooting of Young Girl in Ajegunle
The Lagos State Police Command has disarmed and detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Omotayo Olajide, following the fatal shooting of a young girl, Omole Taiwo, and the injury of another child in the Ajegunle area of the state.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, November 5, 2026, between 9:30pm and 10pm, when police operatives were deployed to the Nosamu area to quell a violent clash between two rival groups allegedly fighting over toll collection.
The groups, identified as the Nosamu Boys and Alayabiagba Boys, were reportedly armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said Olajide discharged his firearm during the operation to restore order, with the bullet hitting the two girls.
According to her, both victims were immediately rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Taiwo was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where she was pronounced dead, while the second victim remains hospitalised in stable condition.
The police command expressed deep sorrow over the death of the innocent girl, describing the incident as unfortunate.
Adebisi disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine appropriate legal and disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them over their loss.
Fatai assured the family that justice would be served, stressing that no officer found culpable would be shielded from accountability.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism and the protection of human life, urging members of the public with useful information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or the Command’s Public Relations Department.
