Court Jails Lagos Couple 14 Years For N67.6m Property Fraud
A Lagos Special Offences Court in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a couple, Harry Uyanwanne and his wife, Oluwakemi Odia, also known as Kristein Uyanwanne, to 14 years imprisonment each for N67.6 million fraud.
Justice Mojisola Dada delivered the judgment on Monday, November 2, 2026, following prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Directorate 1.
The court found the couple guilty on three counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence, but discharged them on the fourth count of forgery.
The EFCC had told the court that sometime in 2010, the duo conspired and fraudulently sold a property located at No. 19, Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute-Metta, Oyingbo, Lagos, belonging to the estate of late Dr. Moshood Babatunde Odemuyiwa.
They allegedly sold the property to one Harry Dyawanne for N16 million while falsely claiming they were authorized by the bonafide beneficiaries of the estate, a claim they knew was false. The total fraud was valued at N67,659,592.
At arraignment, they pleaded not guilty. Prosecution counsel, Fadeke Giwa, called three witnesses and tendered several documents, while the defence called only one witness.
In her judgment, Justice Dada held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
She sentenced the couple to 3 years on count one, 1 year on count two, and 10 years on count three without option of fine, bringing total to 14 years.
The judge also ordered full restitution of N67,659,592 to the petitioner, Olusola Odemuyiwa, and ordered that the sentence of the first defendant be suspended until apprehended.
