Two Suspected Ebola Cases Detected in North-East Nigeria, NCDC Begins Tests
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, prompting health authorities to isolate the individuals and commence investigations.
The agency disclosed this in its latest update on the Ebola disease situation, stating that contact identification and listing were ongoing as part of efforts to prevent any potential spread of the virus.
According to the NCDC, laboratory tests are being conducted on samples collected from the suspected cases to determine whether they are infected with the Ebola virus.
The agency, however, clarified that being classified as a suspected case does not mean an individual has tested positive for the disease, stressing that confirmation can only be established through laboratory results.
Meanwhile, the NCDC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and observe preventive measures, including regular handwashing, proper hygiene and improved sanitation.
It also advised members of the public to adhere to preventive guidelines issued by public health authorities to reduce the risk of possible transmission.
The agency assured that further updates would be provided as verified information becomes available.
