Atiku Challenges Tinubu to Prove He’s in Makkah, Demands Daily Videos
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to provide daily, verifiable evidence of his presence in Makkah for the lesser Hajj, Umrah, amid allegations that the pilgrimage could be a cover for a trip to France.
Atiku said Nigerians deserved transparency regarding the President’s actual destination, daily engagements and the purpose of the trip, particularly in view of questions surrounding a reported $20 billion loan request involving a French business partner.
In a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku alleged that intelligence available to him suggested Tinubu might make only a brief appearance in Makkah before travelling to France.
He urged the Presidency to release clear, current and date-stamped photographs and videos daily showing the President at the Kaaba and participating in the rites of Umrah.
“Nigerians deserve verifiable proof of the President’s presence in Makkah and a transparent account of his daily activities in the Holy Land,” Atiku said.
The former vice president also questioned whether the trip was connected to Tinubu’s health or the reported $20 billion loan request, urging the Presidency to address the concerns and disclose the President’s full itinerary.
While expressing his willingness to join Tinubu and other Nigerians in praying for the country’s peace and progress, Atiku cautioned against using religion without sincerity.
“No one should invoke the name of Almighty Allah in vain,” he said, stressing that a spiritual mission undertaken on behalf of the nation should be treated with seriousness and transparency.
Atiku further argued that Nigerians had the right to know how the trip was being funded, insisting that the Presidency should provide verifiable evidence of the President’s whereabouts and activities throughout the visit.
