The Federal Government has said the 2027 national budget will be ready for presentation before the end of December 2026, allowing the National Assembly sufficient time to scrutinise and approve the estimates ahead of the new fiscal year.

The Minister of State for Budget, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“We are working on the 2027 budget, and our intention is to present it before the end of the year,” the minister said.

The planned timeline is expected to provide lawmakers with an opportunity to examine the proposed revenue projections, expenditure plans and economic priorities before the commencement of the 2027 fiscal year.

The annual budget serves as the Federal Government’s principal fiscal instrument for determining revenue expectations, allocating public funds and outlining its economic priorities.

Uzoka-Anite also announced that the FEC had approved the revised 2026 National Policy on Food and Nutrition in Nigeria and the National Nutrition Bill 2026.

She said the documents were developed through collaboration involving the Office of the Vice-President, the ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Agriculture, Livestock, Education and Health, as well as the private sector, the National Assembly and development partners.

According to her, the policy and bill would provide a framework for coordinating and implementing food and nutrition programmes across the country, while promoting sustainable funding and accountability.

The minister said the measures were designed to improve the health and well-being of Nigerians, particularly by reducing childhood stunting.

She added that the National Nutrition Bill, an executive bill, would be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
