The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved about ₦631.3 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of nine road projects across the country.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this on Wednesday after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

Umahi said major approvals include ₦209 billion for the 81.1km Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, ₦167 billion for the 95km Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State, and ₦89.2 billion for the Bichi Ring Road in Kano State.

Other projects approved cover roads in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East–West Road, and rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.

He added that the first 118km section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria Road has been completed, with work on the second section nearing completion.

Meanwhile, there are reports that workers handling sections of the East-West Road have downed tools and embarked on strike over alleged pay cuts, poor working conditions and welfare issues.
