2027: Youths in Politics Unveils Nationwide Mobilization, Says No Party Alliance – Will Back Candidates On Merit
Youths in Politics (YIP), a grassroots political mobilization movement with structures across 33 states, has announced its nationwide mobilization strategy for the 2027 general elections, declaring it will support candidates based on competence, not party.
The group, with its motto “Tomorrow Is Now”, said it aims to disrupt political godfatherism and shift focus from party symbols to individual capacity, character and track record.
Speaking on the 2027 agenda, the Ojo Local Government Coordinator of YIP, Comrade Edward Omovigho, said the movement will not be tied to any political party.
“Our structure spans 33 states, and our roots run deep into every community, ward, and local government area across Nigeria,” Omovigho said.
“In 2023, we demonstrated our commitment to real representation by directly purchasing nomination forms for credible youth aspirants. As we look toward 2027, our message is that we will not be tied down by party lines. We are looking at the character, capacity, and track record of the individual candidates.”
According to him, YIP will not endorse or form alliance with any single political party, maintaining independence to avoid members being used as party foot soldiers.
He said the movement will vet and endorse candidates strictly on personal competence, integrity and actionable manifestos, regardless of their political platform.
Rather than focusing on one dominant party, the group will spread support across multiple parties to back viable young leaders and progressive minds wherever they emerge.
Omovigho added that the group will deploy its massive nationwide membership to campaign, protect votes and mobilize support for its endorsed candidates.
He urged Nigerian youths to reject political apathy and refuse to be used as tools for electoral violence, noting governance can only improve when capable leaders are chosen on merit rather than party patronage.
