Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has defended President Bola Tinubu over the country’s persistent insecurity, arguing that the President should not be blamed solely for the situation.

Yari said former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired Army general, also struggled to completely eliminate insecurity despite his military background and efforts while in office.

He spoke during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met with Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other APC leaders in Birnin Kebbi.

Acknowledging the security challenges confronting the country, Yari maintained that the Tinubu administration was doing its best to address the situation.

“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.

The APC chieftain also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, stressing that tackling insecurity required collective responsibility alongside government intervention.

On the 2027 general elections, Yari commended Governor Idris and other party leaders for mobilising support for the APC and Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He said the Presidential Campaign Council would collaborate with individuals and groups committed to the President’s re-election, regardless of their positions, to achieve the party’s objectives.

Yari expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in Kebbi, citing the reception and support demonstrated by the people during the delegation’s visit.

Addressing the country’s economic challenges, he argued that the hardship experienced by Nigerians was not peculiar to the country, noting that governments across the world, including those of the United States and Saudi Arabia, were also grappling with various challenges.

He further claimed that inflation had declined and fertiliser prices had reduced, adding that the Federal Government was implementing measures, including cash transfers to vulnerable households, to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

Yari urged Nigerians to acknowledge the administration’s efforts and support its development agenda.

In his remarks, Governor Idris described the visit as a welcome development, commending the APC leaders and traditional rulers who gathered to receive the delegation.

He said Kebbi State had benefited from federal government projects under Tinubu’s administration, adding that the initiatives had strengthened the state’s support for the President.

“We have no reason not to support the President. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Amb. Saidu Dakingari.

“You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu,” Idris said.

The governor expressed confidence that Kebbi would continue to support the APC and Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
