Oborevwori’s CPS Ahon Meets New Delta NUJ Exco, Calls For Closer Synergy With Government
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Sir Festus Ahon, has urged the newly elected executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, to close ranks and deepen partnership with the state government.
Ahon gave the charge when the re-elected Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, led his executive on a thank-you visit to Government House, Asaba.
He said Governor Oborevwori holds the NUJ in high esteem and values the role of the media in promoting accountability and democratic governance.
Oyowe polled 235 votes to defeat Comrade Kenneth Obieh who scored 218 votes in the keenly contested election held in Asaba.
Ahon appealed to the new leadership to resolve disagreements through dialogue, warning that internal crisis would weaken the council.
In attendance, NUJ Vice President, Zone F, Comrade Opaka Dokubo, and Zonal Secretary, Comrade John Angese, urged inclusive governance and teamwork.
Also speaking, CPS to the Speaker, Delta Assembly, Comrade Nkem Nwaeke, called for unity to advance journalists’ welfare.
Responding, Oyowe described his re-election as divine providence and pledged an inclusive administration focused on members’ welfare, promising to carry all chapels along.
