The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Hon. Elder Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has flagged off the Isoko North State Wards Empowerment Programme with the disbursement of N10 million to 200 beneficiaries.
The first phase of the programme, flagged off on Monday, covered 12 wards including Ozoro Wards 14, 15, 16 and 17; Owhelogbo Wards 7 and 8; Otibio Ward 20; Otor-Owhe and Akiewhe-Owhe Wards 9 and 10; and Iyede Wards 1, 2 and 3.
Each beneficiary drawn from the participating wards received N50,000 to support small-scale businesses and cushion economic hardship.
Ogorugba, while flagging off the exercise, commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his MORE Agenda, describing the empowerment as a laudable initiative to promote self-reliance and grassroots development.
He urged beneficiaries to invest the funds judiciously and shun negative behaviours capable of jeopardising their future.
The council boss said the second phase will cover Emevor, Oyede, Ofagbe, Okpe-Isoko, Ellu, Aradhe and Ovrode wards.
He explained that beneficiaries were selected from the participating wards to ensure fair representation, adding that the initiative was designed to cushion the effects of prevailing economic challenges on the people.
The council chairman reaffirmed the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to the development, advancement and empowerment of residents across the state through the MORE Agenda.
Ogorugba urged the beneficiaries to utilise the financial support judiciously, particularly by investing in small-scale businesses that could improve their livelihoods and strengthen economic activities within the local government area.
He also advised them to shun negative behaviours and activities capable of jeopardising their future, stressing the importance of responsible conduct and productive use of the opportunity provided by the programme.
According to the council chairman, the empowerment exercise would continue simultaneously across the remaining wards, with the second phase scheduled to cover Emevor, Oyede, Ofagbe, Okpe-Isoko, Ellu, Aredhe and Ovrode.
Ogorugba further called on constituents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing optimism that the party would record electoral victories in the 2027 general elections.
The first phase of the programme was also attended by ward leaders, whose supervision and coordination contributed to the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise.
