The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against violent crimes, with the rescue of a 25-year-old woman held hostage and the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and cultists in separate operations.

The command also recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, a battle axe and other weapons.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, October 4, 2026.

According to Edafe, operatives of Otu-Jeremi Division, acting on credible intelligence shared by the DPO Ovwian-Aladja, stormed Usiefrun Community on October 3, where a 25-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and held hostage.

The victim was rescued, while the main suspect, 29-year-old Brotugbare Francis Onome, was arrested. A search of the premises led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol with magazine and two rounds of live ammunition.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, arrested two suspected cultists linked to the murder of a 25-year-old man at Jesse Main Market, Ethiope West LGA.

Edafe said the arrest followed intelligence gathered from a viral video showing suspected cultists celebrating the murder.

The suspects, Ezekiel Sunday Izomor, 23, and Emmanuel Ogaganefe, 23, were arrested in Oghara over the cult-related killing of one Godfrey on March 24, 2026. One battle axe, four cutlasses and one hammer were recovered.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a fleeing suspect identified as Collins, who was vying to become the number one man in the Aro Bagger Confraternity, needed to murder a rival cult member to achieve his goal. Collins connived with the two suspects and one Richman, a close friend of the victim, to commit the act,” Edafe said.

He added that Richman and Collins are at large, while efforts to arrest them have been intensified.

Similarly, the Abraka Division, on October 1, arrested two suspects, Endurance Akpade, 37, and Edwin Friday Morgan, 43, over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap a woman in Abraka. The suspects were apprehended alongside members of the civilian anti-cult group.

Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for their swift response and effective intelligence sharing.
