Man Arrested for Allegedly Macheting Father to Death in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Seth for allegedly macheting his father to death in the Pipeline area of Rumukwurushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The command said it had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive behind the alleged killing.
It was gathered that the deceased had reportedly confronted his son several times over his alleged consumption of a hard liquor known as “Ice”, a habit said to have frequently caused disagreements between them.
A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Journalist on Thursday that the suspect, believed to be in his 20s, allegedly attacked his father at their residence.
According to the source, the suspect’s mother, a teacher, was away at work when the incident occurred.
The neighbour said, “The boy’s mother is a teacher and she was not at home. When she returned from work and saw the house scattered, from the veranda to the room, she asked the boy what had happened.
“She saw her husband lying down and initially thought he was sleeping. However, because of the state of the house, she went outside and called people to check on him.
“The person who came confirmed that the man was dead, but she did not see any blood. As she tried to go back inside, the boy locked the door where his father was and remained inside.
“The woman started shouting, which attracted people. Vigilante members and the police arrived and forced the door open. The boy was seen with bloodstains on his hands and allegedly admitted killing his father.”
The source added that the exact cause of the altercation remained unclear, saying it might have resulted from a disagreement over food or another issue.
It was further gathered that the suspect allegedly used a machete to attack his father, inflicting several injuries, including wounds to his neck.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media showed the grieving woman narrating the incident to some officials believed to be members of a local vigilante group.
