Adeda’s Death: Omo-Agege Demands Full Probe, Calls for Ashibogwu to Step Aside
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Adeda reportedly died on Friday, September 25, 2026, following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba, Delta State. The circumstances surrounding the incident have prompted a homicide investigation by the Delta State Police Command.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Omo-Agege said Adeda had gone to work but did not return home, describing his death as an incident that required clear answers and accountability.
The former Deputy President of the 9th Senate said the police had confirmed reports surrounding the incident and commenced a homicide investigation. He noted that three individuals Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh had been named in allegations that Adeda was assaulted.
The police have confirmed the arrest of Adoh, while efforts are ongoing to locate the other two suspects. The command said its homicide section had been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
Omo-Agege, however, cautioned against reaching conclusions before the investigation is completed, stressing the need to establish the exact cause of death and determine what transpired at the ministry.
He said if investigations establish that Adeda died as a result of an assault, those responsible should face prosecution.
The Delta Central senatorial candidate also called on the police to apprehend Attah and Okestine and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.
Omo-Agege further urged Commissioner Ashibogwu to step aside while the investigation continues, arguing that the move would help preserve public confidence in the process.
He said stepping aside should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt but as a measure to ensure confidence in the investigation, particularly because the incident reportedly occurred at the commissioner’s office.
The senator also called for the publication of the findings of the administrative panel set up to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, alongside the outcome of the police investigation.
He urged authorities not to allow the matter to fade from public attention without accountability.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has constituted an administrative panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
Omo-Agege expressed condolences to the Adeda family, saying the family deserved to know the truth about what happened to their relative.
“No one should have to worry about making it home safely after a day at work,” he said, urging authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are fully established.
