Plateau Killings: IGP Disu Visits State, Vows to Hunt Down Perpetrators
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday visited Plateau State over the recent killings in parts of the state, assuring residents that the Nigeria Police Force would intensify security operations and ensure those responsible were brought to justice.
Disu, who paid a condolence visit to the Plateau State Government, said the Police were committed to restoring security and protecting lives and property across the state.
He stressed that achieving sustainable peace and development required continued collaboration among security agencies, government authorities and local communities.
Speaking during the visit, the IGP said the purpose of his trip was to engage stakeholders and assess the security situation following the recent attacks in Mangu and other parts of Plateau.
“I am on the Plateau to discuss issues surrounding the killings in Mangu and other parts of the state. We are not happy with the situation, and I can assure you we have made some arrests,” Disu said.
He added that the Police had intensified community engagement and intelligence gathering to identify emerging threats, protect vulnerable communities and apprehend those behind the attacks.
According to him, building trust between security personnel and residents was essential to preventing further violence.
“Building trust between security personnel and communities is important, and I urge residents to provide credible and timely information to enable security agencies to prevent attacks and apprehend criminals,” he said.
Receiving the IGP, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who was represented by his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, commended the Police leadership for responding promptly to the security situation and visiting the state to assess developments firsthand.
Piyo said the visit demonstrated the IGP’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that the state government would continue to work closely with the Police and other security agencies to maintain peace.
The Deputy Governor also appealed to the IGP to reactivate and deploy officers to the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
She said the facility had remained moribund since its establishment and urged the Police authorities to restore its operational capacity to strengthen security in the area.
