Police Sack 3 Officers Over Killing of UNIPORT Graduate, Declare Inspector Deserter
The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three police officers over their alleged involvement in the killing of a University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt.
The Command also declared an Inspector of Police who reportedly fled the scene after the shooting a deserter.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed this on Wednesday while parading the three dismissed officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.
According to Adepoju, the disciplinary action followed the conclusion of investigations into the incident and the establishment of the officers’ culpability.
“The Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved, and the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” the commissioner said.
The police boss assured that the officers would face prosecution in accordance with the law, as the Command moves to bring those responsible for Obodo’s death to justice.
The development comes amid growing public concern over alleged misconduct and excessive use of force by security personnel in parts of the state.
The Command said further details on the case would be made available as proceedings continue.
