The Eagle Online Publisher Dotun Oladipo Suffers Heart Attack, Dies Suddenly

Lagos-based veteran journalist, and Publisher The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 reportedly suffered heart attack and died suddenly while at the hospital.

He was 56 year old.

The popular media executive and former Sunday Editor of the defunct Compass Newspaper and one-time Politics Editor of PUNCH newspapers, died shortly after taking ill at his office in the Ogba area of Lagos.

According to report in News Express, the union leader and astute administrator, “appeared to be in his usual state of health earlier in the day before suddenly taking ill at his office,” the popular online daily reported this morning.

“Oladipo’s death came as a shock to colleagues, friends and associates,” it added.

A fine gentleman, devout Christian and devoted family man, Oladotun Samson Oladipo reportedly suffered a heart attack and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A pioneer member and former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Mr. Oladipo was until his death the pioneer President of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).

His death came just over a year after he narrowly survived the Otedola Bridge tanker fire with his wife and daughter. His mechanic, Rotimi Olaleye, died in the incident and Oladipo’s vehicle was destroyed.

Chief Executive Officer and Publisher of News Express, Isaac Umunna, confirmed that several media executives were at the home of the late Oladipo to sympathize with the family as when the report was filed.

He described the late Oladipo as a very good man loved by many, saying his death came as rude shock.

Tributes have been pouring in for the departed online media leader.
