Ogorugba Pledges Support for NBA to Promote Order, Justice, Peace in Isoko North
The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has pledged his administration’s continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting legal awareness, justice, peace and order in the local government area.
Ogorugba made the commitment when he received the newly elected executive members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oleh Branch, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Ozoro on Thursday.
The Council Chairman, while welcoming the NBA delegation, congratulated the newly elected executives on their successful emergence and commended them for choosing to visit the council leadership.
He stressed the importance of legal education and public awareness in building a peaceful and law-abiding society, noting that many disputes, crimes and cases of exploitation could be prevented if citizens were adequately informed about their rights, responsibilities and the consequences of violating the law.
According to him, ignorance of the law often exposes people to avoidable victimisation, fraud and other forms of exploitation. He therefore called for a stronger partnership between the council and the NBA in taking legal awareness programmes to communities across Isoko North.
“If you are not enlightened, you will be defrauded,” Ogorugba said, emphasising that citizens must be properly educated on the law so that they can recognise unlawful practices, protect their rights and seek appropriate legal assistance when necessary.
The Chairman said his administration was ready to collaborate with the NBA, particularly in the areas of public legal education, advocacy and community sensitisation. He noted that lawyers had an important role to play in strengthening citizens’ understanding of the law and promoting peaceful resolution of disputes.
Ogorugba further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, justice and responsible governance, stressing that sustainable development could only thrive in an environment where peace, order and respect for the law were upheld.
Ogorugba also called on professional bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders to work with the local government in advancing programmes that would positively impact the people. He said the council remained open to partnerships capable of improving the welfare of residents and contributing to the overall development of Isoko North.
Earlier, the NBA Oleh Branch delegation, led by Mr. Timothy Agbaragbu, Esq., commended the Isoko North council chairman, Ogorugba for what they described as his exemplary leadership and commitment to development in Isoko North.
The delegation praised the chairman for supporting the implementation of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the “MORE Agenda” of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, within the local government area.
They noted that several visible and laudable projects had been executed across Isoko North since Ogorugba assumed office, adding that the projects had positively impacted the lives of residents.
The NBA executives expressed their readiness to work with the council in areas of mutual interest, particularly legal awareness, advocacy and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and justice within the local government.
The visit provided an opportunity for both the council leadership and the NBA Oleh Branch to discuss areas of collaboration and the importance of professional engagement in promoting good governance and community development.
