LPPC Approves 68 Lawyers, 1 Academic for 2026 SAN Conferment

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, LPPC, has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners and one academic to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, for 2026.

The decision was taken on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Committee’s 174th Plenary Session held at the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja. The session was presided over by the Chairman of LPPC and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, Esq.

According to the statement, the rank of SAN is conferred as a mark of professional excellence on legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in the courts or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship.

*ACADEMIC APPOINTEE*
1. Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri

The LPPC stated that all shortlisted conferees must attend and successfully complete the Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme organized by the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, BOSAN. Participation is a mandatory prerequisite for formal conferment. The date will be communicated in due course.

The Committee also warned that in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023, all shortlisted conferees must refrain from publishing or encouraging advertisements, congratulatory messages, or goodwill notices related to their nomination or conferment.

“Any breach of these provisions may attract sanctions for violations of statutory or ethical rules as expressly stated,” the statement added.

The Swearing-In Ceremony for the 69 successful applicants is scheduled to hold on Monday, October 12, 2026.
