Defence Ministry Debunks Rumour of Minister Musa’s Resignation
The Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), intends to resign from office.
In a statement issued on Monday, signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, the ministry described the claim as “malicious and entirely fabricated.”
The statement said the rumour, which gained traction across various online and social media platforms, was “borne out of complete mischief” and had no basis in fact.
“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehood,” he said.
According to the ministry, General Musa “remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen.”
The office urged the public to disregard the reports and cautioned media outlets and internet users against spreading unverified information.
“We strongly advise media outlets and internet users to desist from spreading unverified information and seek clarifications from the office,” it added.
General Musa, a retired Chief of Defence Staff, was appointed Minister of Defence in August 2023. He has been leading the federal government’s efforts to tackle insecurity, banditry and terrorism across the country.
