Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congres (NDC), Peter Obi, has welcomed the safe rescue of the abducted schoolchildren, describing their return as a moment of thanksgiving while urging the government to strengthen security measures to prevent future kidnappings.

‎In a statement released on Friday, Obi expressed relief and joy over the children’s safe return, commending the efforts of security personnel and others who worked behind the scenes to secure their freedom.

‎”I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he said.

The former Governor, however, stressed that the successful rescue should not overshadow the need to tackle the persistent insecurity facing schools and communities across the country.

According to Obi, the recurring abduction of schoolchildren highlights the urgent need for the government to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and prioritise the protection of lives and property.

‎”No child should ever have to endure such trauma. Our children deserve to learn in an atmosphere of safety, not fear,” he said.
