Tension Mounts as Gunmen Kill 82-Year-Old, Teen in Fresh Plateau Attacks
Unknown Gunmen have reportedly killed two persons, including an 82-year-old man, in separate attacks on communities in Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as 82-year-old Demi Duda and 19-year-old Emmanuel Chinge, while another resident sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.
The killings were disclosed on Monday by the Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM), which alleged that the attacks occurred within a 24-hour period.
According to a statement signed by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, Emmanuel Chinge was killed on Sunday at Nche-tahu in the Nkien-whie District of Irigwe Chiefdom.
The group added that between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Monday, gunmen launched another attack on Kurudu community in Jebbu Miango, where Demi Duda was killed and another resident injured.
The IYM expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Irigwe land, alleging that repeated attacks have continued to claim lives, destroy farmlands and worsen the economic hardship faced by residents.
Vanguard report that the group further called for increased security measures and urged Nigerians to support and pray for communities affected by insecurity across Plateau State.
Efforts to obtain a response from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
