Senate President Godswill Akpabio has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the successful implementation of reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria, saying the administration is already making measurable progress.

‎Akpabio made the remarks during the signing of the Digital Identity Management Bill, where he said the legislation reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to innovation, security and institutional reforms.

‎According to the Senate President, the President’s pledge that Nigeria would be fundamentally transformed before the end of his tenure is gradually becoming a reality.

‎”You have promised that under your tenure, by the time you are through, Nigeria will never be the same again. Even from the achievements so far made by the Ministry of Interior in identifying and apprehending criminals at the nation’s entry points, it shows that even before assenting to this bill, the bill is already working,” Akpabio said.

‎He commended Tinubu’s leadership and lauded the National Assembly for translating the President’s reform agenda into legislation.

‎Akpabio also praised the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), particularly its leadership, for its role in implementing the new law, expressing confidence that the legislation would strengthen Nigeria’s digital identity system and enhance national security.

‎In addition, he acknowledged the support of the World Bank for the initiative, thanking the institution for partnering with Nigeria on the digital identity project and witnessing what he described as a landmark moment in the country’s governance reforms.

‎The Digital Identity Management Bill is expected to provide a stronger legal framework for Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem, with the government projecting improvements in identity verification, service delivery and security.
