British Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced his resignation, bringing an end to a turbulent period of leadership marked by growing political pressure and internal party dissent.

‎According to Newsexpressngr, Speaking outside 10 Downing Street on Monday, Starmer said every decision he made while in office was guided by a commitment to put the United Kingdom first. An emotional Starmer thanked his wife, Victoria, whom he described as his “rock,” and said he looked forward to spending more time with his family and being “the best dad” to his children.

‎The outgoing prime minister said he would remain in office in a caretaker capacity until the Labour Party elects a new leader. He added that he had asked the party’s governing body to complete the leadership transition before Parliament reconvenes in September.

‎Starmer’s resignation follows weeks of mounting pressure within Labour after a series of political setbacks and growing calls for a change in leadership. His departure comes less than two years after leading Labour to a historic general election victory in 2024.

‎Attention is now turning to potential successors, with Andy Burnham widely regarded as the leading candidate.

However,‎ Burnham is expected in Westminster after securing victory in the recent Makerfield by-election, a development that strengthened speculation about his prospects of succeeding Starmer.
