The Nigerian Army, with support from the Nigerian Air Force, has rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, weeks after she was abducted by bandits alongside her husband.

‎In a statement issued on Monday by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information,  said the rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.

‎According to the statement, troops sustained pressure on the criminal group through a series of offensive operations, eventually making contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, where Mrs. Abubakar was successfully recovered.

‎The military disclosed that during the encounter, the fleeing bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her as advancing troops closed in on their position.

‎She was immediately evacuated from the scene and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, he added.

‎”The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period,” he said.

‎Major General Uba further assured that troops would continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise those responsible for the abduction, while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and bandit activities across Katsina State and other parts of the country.
