At least 20 people have been killed following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, raising fresh concerns over the persistent security challenges in the region.
The attack, which occurred earlier this week, left several families devastated as residents mourned the loss of their loved ones.
The Kebbi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its condolences to the families of the victims and the affected community.
During a condolence visit to the area on Saturday, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Tafida, led a government delegation to Fesken Rafi, assuring residents of the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
”We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” Tafida said.
He further announced plans to deploy additional security personnel and operational resources to the area to strengthen ongoing security operations, restore normalcy, and prevent future attacks.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, and the member representing Arewa Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Nuradeen Kangiwa, confirmed that the attack claimed at least 20 lives.
Both officials commended Governor Nasir Idris for his administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity and providing support to affected communities.
Traditional leaders, including the Dikkon Kabi, Alhaji Kabiru Sulaiman, who represented the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, as well as the District Head of Bui, Alhaji Abubakar Dan-Malam, praised the government’s intervention and response to the tragedy.
The monarchs also appealed to the state government to construct a road linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway, noting that improved access would enhance security response, boost economic activities, and improve the living conditions of residents.
