DELSU Loses Lecturer to Reported ‘Cardiac Arrest’
Delta State University has lost one of its lecturers, Professor Emmanuel Akarah of the Department of Human Kinetics, Recreation and Sports Science Education, Faculty of Education
The lecturer, popularly known as ‘Don Spino’, was said to have suffered cardiac arrest and died at the university’s health centre at the early hours of Friday.
This was contained in a statement issued by Dr. S.R. Akpokiniovo on behalf of the Faculty Welfare Committee, on Friday.
According to the statement, the lecturer was rushed to the University Health Centre on Campus II by his wife and children after the medical emergency occurred at about 1: am.
The statement disclosed that doctors at the health facility, including the Director of the University Health Services, later confirmed him dead on arrival at about 1:25 a.m.
Dr. Akpokiniovo said he personally visited the health centre after receiving a distress call from a security officer informing him of the incident.
Describing the development as shocking and painful, he expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the academic.
The statement entitled. “The Unbelievable and a Sad Day in the Faculty” reads; “My dear colleagues and board members, it is with heavy, bleeding heart and sad moment to inform you that our colleague Prof. Emmanuel Akarah (AKA DON SPINO) of the department of Human Kinetics Recreation and Sports Science Education passed on today at the university health centre at about 1:25am.
“The call came in from one the security at about 1am that he had cardiac arrest and was rushed to the university health centre in campus 2, by his wife and children and the Doctor including the Director of UHS confirmed him dead upon arrival. I couldn’t believe but have to drive down myself at that odd hour. May the soul of DON SPINO rest in peace”, the statement reads.
