Peter Obi Explains Why He Left ADC

Peter Obi, a leading Nigerian politician and advocate for national development, has explained his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a tweet on X, Obi revealed that his departure was driven by what he described as internal crises, suspicion, and division within the party, which he believes are distractions from Nigeria’s pressing national issues.

Obi emphasized that his commitment remains to Nigeria’s progress, and his decision to step away from the ADC was not motivated by personal grievances against party leaders such as Senator David Mark or Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Instead, he pointed to the internal conflicts, court cases, and factional struggles that have hampered the party’s ability to serve as an effective platform for societal change.

“Leaving the ADC was not an easy decision, but I believe it is necessary for me to continue my focus on Nigeria’s future,” Obi stated.

“Our internal disagreements and distractions divert attention from the real challenges—security, unemployment, education, and healthcare—that require urgent national solutions.”, he added.

Obi further explained that his move was motivated by a desire to prioritize service and genuine leadership over party politics that seem increasingly consumed by control and exclusion.

“We need leaders who are committed to nation-building, not just internal party battles,” he said.

Despite stepping away from the ADC, Obi reaffirmed his dedication to Nigeria’s ideals.

He reiterated that his primary concern is for a country where citizens can live in peace, have access to basic needs, and enjoy justice and fairness.

“My departure is a call for all of us to focus on what truly matters—building a Nigeria where every citizen’s life counts,” he emphasized.

Obi maintained that a better Nigeria is within reach if leaders and citizens alike unite around common goals of integrity, service, and genuine progress.

“A new Nigeria is possible,” he affirmed, urging Nigerians to remain committed to positive change.
