Police Arrest Inter-state Gun Runners, Kidnappers in Delta, Recover Two AK-47 Rifle

Four suspected inter-state gun-runners and kidnappers have been nabbed by operatives of the tactical team of the Delta State Police Command based in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspects were apprehended at separate coordinated sting operation on April 23 and April 24, 2026 between Ughelli, Warri and Port-harcourt, River State.

It was gathered that one of the suspect, Haruna Jibrin, 30, a native of Wase, Plateau State, was to facilitate the movement of arms from Ughelli to Port Harcourt, Rivers State when operatives swooped at him following a coordinated sting operation on April 23.

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that a follow-up operations the next day, April 24 led to the arrest of another accomplice, Isiyaku Adamu, 38, in Rivers State.

He said that the AK-47 rifle intended to be transported was recovered alongside a blue Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. MUS 138 DJ) used in the operation.

Similarly, the command’s tactical team based in Ughelli, acting on credible intelligence, on April 24, arrested one Ahmadu Usman, 22, a native of Lafiya, Nasarawa State, at Ekuigbo area of Ughelli in connection with a kidnapping syndicate terrorising commuters along Ughelli–Warri Road.

Further interrogation, according to the police image-maker led to the arrest of another suspect, Haruna Abdullahi, 37, at Trailer Park along Warri–Sapele Road.

The items recovered from them include one AK-47 rifle loaded with thirty-six (36) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

He said that the suspects in both operations are in custody while investigation is ongoing.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking and assures residents of sustained operations to ensure public safety.
