Police Arrest Four Robbery Suspects in Delta, Recover One Pistol, Cut-to-size Gun, Live Cartridge
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two firearms following coordinated stop-and-search and patrol activities within Asaba, the state capital.
It was gathered that three of the suspects were arrested at Bonsaac Area of Asaba, while the others were apprehended along Ugbolu/Asaba Road.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe who confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, said that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), on April 23, while on routine stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu/Asaba Road, intercepted one Chinoso Igwemma, aged 28.
Edafe said that the suspect’s conduct aroused suspicion, prompting a search which led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol.
He said that the timely intervention of the operatives is assessed to have averted a potential violent crime allegedly by the suspect who is currently in custody and under investigation
Edafe disclosed that three other suspects were arrested by operatives of the Crack Squad, while on routine patrol in the Bonsaac Area of Asaba, where they intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants.
The suspects, identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem aged 30, Nwabueze Kelvin, 28, and Okonkwo Celestine, 30 were all subjected to a thorough search, leading to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
The police image-maker said that preliminary interrogation revealed that they are linked to criminal activity and disposing of innocent citizens of their belongings adding that efforts are ongoing to uncover their network and apprehend other accomplices.
Commenting.on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led strategies, and proactive policing aimed at preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks in the state.
