Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has formally resigned his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing deepening internal crises and the need to safeguard the broader interest of the people of Kano State.
The Governor announced his decision in a letter to the Chairman of Diso-Chiranchi Ward, NNPP, Gwale Local Government Area, effective Friday, Jan. 23,2026.
This is contained in a statement issued by his Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, in Kano on Friday.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the platform and support extended to him since 2022 .
Yusuf cited persistent internal disputes and legal challenges as reasons for his resignation, stating that the internal disagreements had widened divisions and weakened cohesion within the party.
He emphasised that his decision was guided by public interest considerations and taken in good faith without bitterness.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor resigned along with 21 members of the State House of Assembly, 8 members of the House of Representatives, and 44 Local Governments’ Chairmen of Kano State.
