Ibori’s Daughter, 4 LP Lawmakers Defect To APC Amid Party Crisis
Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She was joined by four Labour Party (LP) lawmakers, including Tochukwu Chinedu Okere (Imo), Donatus Matthew (Kaduna), Akiba Bassey (Cross River), and Esosa Iyawe (Edo).
According to reports, Ibori-Suenu’s defection was sparked by her exclusion from party activities since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori took office.
Her father, Chief James Ibori, had opposed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s candidacy during the 2023 general election, but former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s backing ensured Oborevwori’s emergence as governor.
The lawmakers cited internal crisis and factionalization within the LP and PDP as reasons for their defection.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced their defection during Thursday’s plenary session.
