BREAKING: Reps Launch Investigation Into Okuama’s Carnage, Calls For Public Memoranda

The House of Representatives Committee on Defence, has launched an investigative hearing into the recent carnage in Okuama Community, Ughelli South local government area of Delta State, which resulted in the death of 17 military officers and unaccounted civilians.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that this was contained in an invitation letter obtained by our correspondent on Monday.

The hearing, is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Conference Hall, Government House Annex, Edjeba Warri Delta State.

The investigative hearing, aims to uncover the causes and effects of the March 14 incident, identify the perpetrators, and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In the letter signed by the committee chairman, Rep. Babajimi Benson, the House of Representatives, is inviting the general public, stakeholders, and interested parties to submit memoranda and provide valuable information and recommendations.

The submissions, according to the letter should be made in ten copies and submitted to the Clerk of the Committee, Musa Aliyu, at the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Abuja, or at the public investigative hearing.

The committee seeks a robust engagement and meaningful contributions from all stakeholders to ensure that justice is served, and succor is brought to the innocent members of the public affected by the incident.

BIGPEN NIGERIA had reported that the Military Board of Inquiry constituted by the Defence Headquarters to investigate the killing of 17 soldiers, had few weeks ago undergone a similar public hearing which was attended by six stakeholders from Okoloba, Bomadi local government but boycotted by indigenes of Okuama community.

The military personnel comprises of a commanding officer, two majors, a captain, and 13 soldiers, were ambushed and murdered on 14 March.

The soldiers were purportedly on a peace-keeping mission over the aged-long land dispute between Okoloba and Okuama communities.
