Palpable tension have gripped residents in Bwari, Ushafa, and neighboring villages within Bwari Area Council, Abuja, following deadly attacks by suspected bandits.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) understands that residents are in fear due to the relentless and deadly activities of bandits causing havoc in the metropolis.

According to report in Ireporteronline, the assailants have been on a rampage, engaging in killings and kidnappings across various communities in the council.

The report say a tragic incident occurred last week in Zuma 1, Bwari central ward, where gunmen abducted seven family members.

The newspaper said that during a gun battle with the Nigeria Police Force, a man named Alhaji was killed, and two officers sustained serious injuries.

Prior incidents include bandit invasions in Barangoni and attacks on Garam, Kuduru, and Azu communities, resulting in multiple abductions and injuries.

The dire situation has led to residents fleeing their homes, especially in Bwari, Ushafa, and border communities, seeking safety from the violent attacks.

The banditry has also impacted Veritas University in the Bwari area, prompting its closure in July 2022 after attacks on nearby areas led to casualties among soldiers responding to a distress call.

The General Hospital in Bwari partially shut down due to escalating bandit attacks, with hospital workers, including doctors, fearing kidnapping.

In Ushafa, recent attacks near Jordan FM resulted in the abduction of residents. Farmers have reportedly sighted bandits near rocks behind LEA Primary School, raising concerns about potential future attacks.

The vigilante group in Ushafa has appealed for urgent assistance, emphasizing the need for more soldiers and security operatives to address the escalating security challenges in the area.

But the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information.

Adeh mentioned that the Commissioner of Police had diligently visited communities, engaged with leaders, and deployed additional personnel and resources to enhance security. “Despite these efforts, concerns about perceived inactivity persist”, the report said.
