‘Genitals’ Theft’: Men Arm Themselves With Bitter Kola, Alligator Pepper Against Attacks Amid Widespread Panic In Calabar

Suspected perpetrator of organ disappearance beaten to pulp

Amidst increasing reports of genital theft, men now go about with bitter kola and alligator pepper in Calabar, the Cross River State following escalating rumours of the alleged disappearance of male genitals.

This is coming as the alleged development, earlier dismissed as mere hearsay from remote areas, has instilled palpable fear among the residents of the metropolis.

Many residents are left questioning the validity of these claims, the identity of the culprits, the purpose of such acts, and the fate of the victims. Additionally, there is speculation on whether these rumours are genuine or attempts to stir up chaos within the city.

In response to the panic, the Cross River State Government, through its Information Commissioner, Erasmus Ekpang, has denied the authenticity of these reports, a stance supported by the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo. They described these claims as the work of mischief makers and assured the public to carry on with their daily activities without fear.

Despite these assurances, the residents remain sceptical, as frequent disturbances continue to be reported across the city related to the alleged genital disappearances. Over fifteen cases have been reported from all corners of the city, with some victims claiming their genitals were returned, while others were not as fortunate.

Chibuike, a local spare parts dealer, told Saturday Vanguard that these organs, allegedly used for ritualistic purposes, could fetch up to one million naira each in the black market. He warned that the situation could worsen if the authorities do not intervene promptly.

In an attempt to protect themselves, many men have started carrying bitter kola and alligator pepper in their pockets or clutching their genitals while in public or on public transport. This trend has led to a surge in the prices of these items.

These alleged incidents are reported to have taken place in various parts of the city, according to sources quoted by the newspaper. In one instance, police intervention prevented a mob from lynching two men after another man accused them of stealing his genitals.

Regardless of the validity of these claims, the fear has led to many men carrying bitter kola and alligator pepper as a protective measure. However, there are claims that this method of protection may not be effective.
