The Elder Omeni Sobotie-led
State Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has debunked the purported expulsion of the Deputy President of the Senate and governorship candidate of the party in Delta state, Senator Ovie-Omo Agege from the party, describing the purported ‘state executive council’ responsible for the said expulsion as a group of “dubious imposters”.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (www.bigpenngr.com) reports that Sobotie-led Delta APC which reacted after the letter of alleged expulsion of Omo-Agege went viral on social media, said that the APC he is leading as chairman remains the legitimate and only recognized State Executive Committee of the Party, at the National Headquarters.

He, therefore declared the alleged expulsion of Omo-Agege as fraudulent, a ruse and of no consequence, urging his party faithfuls and general public to disregard and ignore the publications making the rounds as the handiwork of mischief makers.

Multiple reports had on Monday claimed that the APC in Delta state had expelled the Deputy President of the Senate from being a member of the APC for alleged for anti-party activities and other sundry offences.

A letter with the party’s letterhead and signed by Ulebor Isaac as chairman, on behalf of the State Executive Committee of the Delta APC and Secretary, Inana Michael, and 23 others, had announced Omo-Agage’s expulsion in the letter dated March 31, 2023.

According to the letter, the expulsion was a unanimous resolution and adoption of the expulsion of Omo-Agege as a member of the party by the executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North Local Government chapter.

The letter reads, “The State Executive Committee of all Progressive Congress Delta State in a meeting held on the 31st March, 2023 at the State Secretariat, Asaba, after due deliberation of the Notice of Resolution of Expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as a member of the party by the executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North local government chapter dated 20th March, 2023.

“And in accordance to the provision of Article 21.2 (1)(II)(VII) 21.3 and 21.5(g) of the constitution 2022 (as amended) we unanimously resolved and adopted the expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo Agege as a member of the party.

The letter further reads, “Consequently Senator Ovie Omo-Agege hereby stands expelled as a member of the party with immediate effect for various offences committed and acts of anti-party activities and gross misconduct that has brought shame and ridicule to the image of the party in the state which affected the party in the just concluded elections.”

Omo-Agege who lost to the Governor-elect of Delta state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in the March 18th government election in Delta after polling 240,229 votes against the PDP candidate who scored 360,234 votes, has been in a running battle with former Executive Director (Finance and Project) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Cairo Ojougboh and current chairman of the NDDC board, Lauretta Onochie but it was not clear if the duo were behind the alleged expulsion.

Sobotie-led Delta APC, in a statement he personally signed alongside his Secretary, Surv. Peter Akarogbe, said that those responsible for the purported expulsion were mere “rabble rousing impostors” who claimed to hold positions at the various levels of the party – Wards, Local Government Areas, Senatorial Districts and at the State Headquarter.

The statement further reads; “We, the the legitimate and only recognized State Executive Committee of the Party, at the National Headquarters, in consultations with all other levels in the chain, hereby disclaim the publication as fraudulent, a ruse and of no consequence. Therefore it should be disregarded and ignored as the handiwork of mischief makers by all party faithfuls and the general public.

“The Executive Committee members of the APC at the Wards, Local Governments, Senatorials Districts and State levels, were duly elected at the different Congresses organised by the party. They remain legitimate and still hold their offices and positions in accordance with the APC Constitution.

“The various levels of the Executive Committees of the All Progressives Congress at the Wards, Local Governments, Senatorial Districts and the State, were elected by bonafide members of the Party, in an open transparent process, duly designated, approved and coordinated by the National Headquarters.

“In the light of the foregoing, the names of the Executive Committee members of the APC at the Wards, Local Governments, Senatorial Districts and the State, are in the National Secretariat of the Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which duly monitored the congresses as required by law.

“Consequent on the above, the signatories to the said publication are not only dubious impostors, but very reckless in with their publication. In this regard, their claims could cause a breach of public peace and must not be permitted.

“The Nigerian Police Force, DSS and other security agencies are enjoined to take note of the wanton rascality and the unscrupulous intent to cause disharmony and a breach of public peace”.
